HISTORY OF KARUNA-Kİ
The early development of Karuna Ki Reiki can be traced back to the pioneering work of
Kathleen Milner, whose journey began within the realm of Usui Reiki. As documented in
Kathleen’s books, she initially learned Reiki but began to feel that what she had been taught
was incomplete. This sense of incompleteness led her to explore further avenues of healing,
eventually leading her to encounter Seichim, a complementary healing system that
resonated deeply with her.
It’s believed that Kathleen may have first encountered Seichim at the Whole Life Expo in
California, most likely from August Star, a student of Phoenix Summerfield. Seichim, with its
emphasis on sacred geometry and symbols, provided Kathleen with a deeper understanding
of energy healing and expanded her perspective on the possibilities within the healing arts.
One common aspect of learning Seichim, according to its founder Patrick Zeigler, is the
experience of seeing sacred geometry or symbols. This profound connection to symbols and
geometric patterns became an integral part of Kathleen’s exploration into the realm of energy
healing.
The foundation of Seichim Reiki, with its “seed” symbols including the Infinity symbol,
resonated deeply with Kathleen, sparking her curiosity and inspiring her to integrate these

Indian Guru Satya Sai Baba. In what appeared to be a bi-located form, Sai Baba made his
presence known to Kathleen and one of her Reiki students, Marcy Miller. Marcy reported
receiving additional symbols and attunement instructions directly from Sai Baba, further
enriching Kathleen’s exploration into the realms of energy healing.
Sai Baba’s appearance to Kathleen on the “inner planes” marked the beginning of a
transformative journey, during which Kathleen received invaluable insights and guidance on
the remodification of Reiki. Over the course of several months, Kathleen and Marcy were
gifted with additional symbols and attunement techniques, each revelation deepening their

It’s important to note that while Kathleen and Marcy believed they were in communication
with Sai Baba, this connection was primarily psychic in nature. There were no physical or
direct interactions with Sai Baba, and later attempts to verify Sai Baba’s involvement with
Reiki yielded no confirmation from the Sai Baba organization.
The initial three symbols—Zonar, Harth, and Halu—were believed to have been given to
Kathleen and/or Marcy by Sai Baba. These symbols, along with the subsequent
attunements, formed the foundation of what would later evolve into Tera Mai-Reiki and,
ultimately, Karuna Ki Reiki.
As Karuna Ki Reiki continued to develop, additional symbols were contributed by various

Karuna Reiki® Symbols Explained

Karuna Reiki® presents eight symbols with specific energetic frequencies for specific conditions. Each symbol holds an energy, so it can be used to invoke its meaning, and further its effect to bring healing where is needed through different techniques like symbol chanting.

Om

Om or Aum is a very powerful symbol. It is beyond time, as it’s considered the source of all creation, the eternal oneness of all that is. Before being discovered as a symbol in Karuna Reiki®, it was the most sacred sound found in Yoga. It can be used even if no attunement to Reiki has been made.

Those four subtle sounds of Om correspond to four levels of consciousness as follows: “A” – conscious, waking state; “U” – subtle, unconscious dream state; “M” – subconscious, deep sleep state; the fourth sound is the silence, which represents the absolute consciousness that illuminates and pervades the three prior states.

ZONAR
Zonar is the first symbol you learn at the 1st level of Karuna Reiki.It can help heal deep
emotional scars both from the present as well as the past.Apart from Karuna, the Zonar
symbol is present in other Reiki systems.Its role is to protect against negative influences.
Most of the symbols in the Karuna Reiki system have a strong connection with the chief
celestial Archangels.Gabriel is the corresponding Archangel for Zonar.Like all Karuna Reiki
symbols, Zonar has a deep impact over the celestial, astral, emotional, and physical body.
It was channeled through Marcy Miller from the Ascendant Master Sai Baba.
